“China Times” International Celebrity Go Tournament
On June 29, 2024, the “China Times” International Celebrity Go Tournament, co-organized by the Singapore Weiqi Association and the International Forum, was held at the Singapore Weiqi Association Clubhouse. This tournament invited renowned Go players from around the world, attracting the attention of many well-known Go enthusiasts and supporters of the Urban Culture Forum.
Singapore China Baijiu Pte., Ltd. sponsored the event with its Moutai brand. This initiative not only highlights Moutai’s cultural heritage and social responsibility as a historically rich baijiu brand but also reflects its deep recognition and active support of traditional Chinese culture. As a representative brand of Chinese baijiu, Moutai is globally renowned for its unique brewing process and long-standing cultural history. Moutai’s sponsorship added a distinctive cultural atmosphere to the event, further enhancing its influence and visibility.
This year’s International Celebrity Go Tournament featured an innovative competition system that combined competitiveness, entertainment, and digitalization, incorporating artificial intelligence elements for the first time. It also included professional commentary and live broadcasts, aiming to explore how AI technology intersects with the wisdom and skills of Go, allowing the audience to better appreciate the excitement of Go matches, promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning, and showcasing the profound wisdom of humanity.
On the day of the tournament, 17 Go players participated in a one-day exchange match. The Singapore Go Tournament featured two 6-dan players who competed in five rounds. The competition hall was serene and solemn, with spectators holding their breath, watching quietly. The players were focused, strategically arranging and moving pieces on the black-and-white board. They maneuvered skillfully, contemplating each move, demonstrating strategic depth in a high-level competition that captivated the audience.
